***** Thank you for ordering the Elan Digital Systems P-Series Universal Desktop PCMCIA-to-PCI Adapter. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO PROPERLY INSTALL THE ADAPTER IN YOUR PC. IF YOU DO NOT, THE ADAPTER WILL NOT WORK. 1) You MUST install the Elan driver software BEFORE you physically install the Elan PCI card in your system. If you install the card first, the Device Manager may show it as installed correctly, without any conflicts, but it will not function! Do NOT insert a PCMCIA card into the adapter until the hardware and software installation is completed and the adapter has been successfully recognized. Open the Device Manager to confirm this.
The setup will ask you for a PASSWORD. The PASSWORD is: conditions 3)
Microsoft Hotfix Q318213 (included on the CD) is to fix the
problem with XP preventing PCMCIA multiport cards from operating the
second port on the card. This was fixed by service pack 1, but
Microsoft introduced another bug with the service pack! Microsoft
Hotfix Q813820 (Q813820_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe, on the CD) solves the
PCMCIA COM port "powered-down" problem introduced by service
packs 1 and 1a into Windows XP. Q813707 is
to fix a problem on Windows XP where, when a PCMCIA multifunction card
is inserted, only one function is enumerated and a "Code 10"
error results. To read
