FeaturesThe DMM i218 PCMCIA (PC-Card) is a type II PCMCIA I/O card for notebooks and other computers containing a PCMCIA slot. The card uses very little power so it can operate in battery-powered computers. The card has a 24 bit sigma-delta A/D converter chip and a built in multiplexer/scanner with 16 single-ended or 8 differential analogue input channels with sum sampling rates from 10Hz to 1000Hz. Also included is a digital I/O port. 8 lines can be used for input or output. A built-in 16 bit counter, used for impulse counting or frequency measurement up to 6MHz, completes the design. The card works with Microsoft® Windows® CE/95/98/ME, Windows NT® and Windows® 2000 operating systems. |

ApplicationsThe DMM i218 PCMCIA (PC-Card) can be used in many environments for automation of machines and process monitoring and control, instrumentation and electronic test functions. Low-power consumption makes the card ideal for developing portable data acquisition systems.
The multichannel analog inputs can be used for voltage measurement, temperature measurement (Thermocouple), curve printing and data logging. The 8 digital I/O lines can be ued for machine and process control, switching external devices such as solid-state-relays or reading the status of external digital logic.
A single PCMCIA card replaces a DVM application: DVM with an accuracy of 4 1/2 digits, a 16 channel scanner/multiplexer and a IEEE488 interface card. |

Analog InputAll analog input channels have an input impedance of 2.5 to 20MOhm, depending on the selected range. The conversion rate ranges from 10Hz to 200Hz and can be set by software. The card provides unipolar and bipolar input ranges from 20mV to 2.5V. In conjunction with the extremely high resolution, voltage changes in the uV-area can be detected. The 16 input channels can be used as 8 differential input channels. These features make the card well suited for portable temperature measurement. Thermocouples and PT100..PT2000 sensors can be attached directly. Two sensor constant current sources are built-in. The A/D converter in use provides continous self-calibration during the measurement. In portable applications, this helps to cope with environmental changes like temperature, humidity and so on. The cards low power design prevents self-heating. CounterA 16 bit counter with TTL compatible input is built-in. Impulse counting and frequency measurements can be performed. The maximum input clock frequency is 6MHz. Digital I/O8 digital I/O lines provide TTL compatible level, the maximum current is 4mA. Any combination of the number of input and output lines is possible. |
