Technical Data

Power measurements

Power measurements (below) for the PCMCIA card readers represent the loading of the card reader on the PCI bus power rails without any PCMCIA card inserted in the card reader.

Single Rear Slot Models : (P111, P311, P312, PMC111)

  1. 12v: 3uA typical
  2. 5v: 21mA typical
  3. 3.3v: 0mA (supplied from regulator on 5v rail)

Dual slot models: (P222, P423, P424, P416)

  1. 12v: 6uA typical
  2. 5v: 40mA typical
  3. 3.3v: 0mA (supplied from regulator on 5v rail)

MTBF

Estimated MTBF for all our card readers is 100K hours under normal operating conditions.

Over Current Protection

Power supply over-current protection is built into all our range of PCMCIA card readers and provides protection to the PC and card reader from faulty PCMCIA cards being inserted in the card reader.

Max. Power Supply current to the PCMCIA card in each PCMCIA socket (all models):

  • VCC 1A at 3.3V
  • VCC 1A at 5.0V
  • VPP 250mA at 12V

Hardware Requirements

The P-series will run with any true "IBM compatible" single processor Pentium PC or higher with PCI Bus version 2.1 or higher.  (Generally machines with processors earlier than the Pentium 133 do not have PCI Bus 2.1.)

We have a utility available which allows you to test BIOS support on your PC.

Multiprocessor Machines:  in some systems the P-series drivers will not operate on multi-processor motherboards.  This only affects systems running Windows NT4, 2000 or XP and more information is available in our troubleshooting section.

Beware! - you cannot use your P-series unit in a laptop; The P-Series drivers are designed to operate with specially designed PCI based PC-Card drives on add-in boards for desktop PC's.
You should NOT install the P-Series drivers on any other hardware platform, THEY WILL NOT WORK!

Hardware Compatibility

The P-series adapters offer a PCMCIA slot equivalent to that on a laptop PC.  Most models support all PCMCIA standard compliant 16-bit cards.  The P111 and P222 (single and twin rear slot models respectively) support all PCMCIA standard compliant 16-bit and 32-bit (CardBus) cards.

Our supported card list (PDF) indicates cards which Elan has tested with our P-series in-house.

Current Driver Version

The current P-series driver version is 5.05; you can download new drivers but note that these will only work with a genuine Elan manufactured product purchased from Team Solutions, Inc. or Ines GmbH.  If you have any questions, contact your supplier for assistance.

Models using these drivers:

P111 - P222 - P423 - P424 - P113 - P114 - P115 - P116 - P117 - P118 - P119 - P122 - P223 - P224 - P228.

Downloading Software Drivers for PCI-to-PCMCIA Adapters:

IMPORTANT:  Please read this information carefully before trying to install these drivers....

Downloadable from this page is the latest version (5.05) of the P-Series drivers, supporting Windows9x, Me, NT4.0 & 2000.
To install, you should firstly uninstall any previous revision of the driver (via the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs). It is not necessary to remove the hardware, just any PC-Cards you have inserted. Copy the attached zip file to a temporary directory and extract all the files using WinZip or other zip file utility (go to http://www.winzip.com/ for the latest copy if required), then run setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.

These drivers are only for use with the range of PC-Card/Card Bus adapters for the PCI bus products sold by Team Solutions, Inc. and Ines GmbH. They can NOT be used with adapters made by other manufacturers. If your adapter has an "Elan Technology License" label attached to it, or your original driver floppy disk has such a label, then your hardware is not manufactured by Elan and these drivers will not work, so do not install them. You should go to your supplier for a driver that is compatible with your hardware.

You will need a password as the zip file is password protected.  The password can be found by looking in the licence.txt file on your original driver disk. The password is the last word in the section headed "Reverse Engineering"

Please contact Team Solutions, Inc. or Ines Gmbh. for assistance if you have any questions.
